sowing seeds and taking note April 05 2025

a dye garden in the making... my seed trays are filled with the promise of colorful blooms.

starting seeds is one of my greatest joys. i feel a childlike sense of awe as each seedlings bursts through the soil. i check the little sprouts multiple times a day, making sure to provide everything they need to thrive. i made myself a new greenhouse journal – a dedicated space to jot down dates and quantities and notes. a reminder of seeds to order for next season and lists of questions to ask more seasoned gardening friends. i know my journal will get dirty, and that is ok.

each book contains 116 pages and measures 5 x 6.5”. the journal is covered in nature drawings by my dear friend, joan wenske. the drawings are printed on cotton fabric that i dyed with indigo from last season’s dye garden and embellished with plant-dyed sashiko thread. the back side of the journal is covered in plant-dyed organic cotton/hemp fabric (ochre, pink, red, and terracotta) that matches the pop of color on the front. each book comes in an indigo-dyed drawstring bag for safe keeping.
