finding solace in creativity, nature, and community November 16 2024
i have harvested all the flowers and put my dye garden to bed for the season.
these seasonal cycles in nature give me a fresh perspective and a sense of hope. the garden will bloom again and i will pour my creative energy in to other places during the darkness of winter. this mindset extends beyond my craft, of course.
community feels more important than ever. and while it may be small in the scheme of things, your response to my plant-dyed treasure boxes for stitchers has brought me immense joy. i feel such a beautiful connection to those who appreciate these treasure boxes. i am so grateful to be able to spend my time planting, harvesting, dyeing, curating, stitching and assembling these boxes, and i am so grateful that you love them. this fabric weaves us together.
the last batch of treasure boxes sold out in a few hours. i had not intended to make more as this is the busiest of holiday seasons, but i could not resist. once i started playing with different color palettes, i got lost in the process. there are four choices this time...
the fabric, thread, and silk ribbon in this treasure box is an exploration of the dried flowers from my dye garden. i played with different additions to the dye pot from botanical colors. i love the subtle difference in the palettes and the different moods they inspire. the box is filled with 5 colors each of flax linen and wool felt, and 2 colors each of wool gauze, sashiko thread, and silk ribbon. you will also find a booklet with instructions and photos for making your own cordage and a sewing needle suitable for the sashiko thread.
each box top is covered in wool gauze with a small hand stitched flower in the corner. a 28” strand of plant-dyed silk cordage adorned with flowers at each end wraps around the treasure box. this can be worn as a necklace or bracelet, or hung as decoration.
this treasure box lends itself to small, patchwork projects and meaningful decorations like ornaments and amulets. you can look at my collection of over 50 free sewing tutorials for inspiration. happy stitching!
PS: it is not easy to get work done with myra always trying to squeeze in my lap.
